Stretching Anatomy

by Arnold G. Nelson, Jouko Kokkonen, Jason M. McAlexander

Stretching Anatomy

Stretching Anatomy Overview

See inside every stretch—and maximize flexibility! Stretching Anatomy will arm you with the knowledge to increase range of motion, supplement training, enhance recovery, and maximize efficiency of movement. You'll also gain a detailed understanding of how each stretch affects your body.

Stretching Anatomy is like having an X-ray of each stretch, only better. Not only do you see full-color illustrations of the muscles in action, but you also find out how changes in position can alter the muscle emphasis and difficulty and how variations can improve safety and effectiveness.

Each exercise includes detailed instruction on how to stretch, when to stretch, primary and secondary muscle emphasis, and which muscles are activated for support. Stretching programs provide three levels of difficulty, including light stretching that can be used as a warm-up or to aid in recovery from soreness or injury. And summary movement tables show how to customize stretching programs to focus on key problem areas.

Whether it is increased flexibility or reduced muscle soreness or tension, Stretching Anatomy allows you to see and feel the benefit of proper stretching technique.

Stretching Anatomy Review

I had a copy of this and ordered one for a gift and it was a success. It's a good book; informative and well presented.

Anatomy of Movement by Blandine Calais-Germain

by Blandine Calais-Germain

Anatomy of Movement by Blandine Calais-Germain

Anatomy of Movement by Blandine Calais-Germain Overview

Anatomy of Movement presents a dynamic, integrated approach to the study of the physical structures of the musculoskeletal system and their functional relationship to the movements of the human body. In clear and concise text illustrated with more than a thousand graphic drawings, the author guides the reader on a lively tour of the muscles, bones, ligaments and joints of the arms, legs and trunk. The focus throughout the book is on anatomy not for its own sake, but in its functional relationship to the actual movements of the body in dance, exercise, and other physical disciplines. In this newly-revised edition, a majority of the thousand-plus illustrations are new or have been modified by the author from the original edition. The text has also been updated, and the sequencing of the presentation of the musculoskeletal anatomy has been revised in part.

Anatomy of Movement by Blandine Calais-Germain Review

This book is well written with good drawings to help reinforce the information she is providing. I think this an excellent resource for understanding the biomechanics of the body in a simple practical way.

Biochemistry (Lippincott's Illustrated Reviews Series) Review

I bought this book after it was highly recommended to me for my medical school course (Molecular and Cellular Basis of Medicine). It has certainly been an invaluable resource and gives you just what you need to know. This is not a reference book, or even a textbook. It's a highly condensed, high-yield book for learning what's relevant and important. If you're a visual learner, this book contains quality diagrams that illustrate the material very well. I highly recommend this book!

Fundamentals of Biochemistry: Life at the Molecular Level

by Donald Voet, Judith G. Voet, Charlotte W. Pratt

Fundamentals of Biochemistry: Life at the Molecular Level

Fundamentals of Biochemistry: Life at the Molecular Level Overview

Voet, Voet, and Pratt's Fundamentals of Biochemistry, challenges students to better understand the chemistry behind the biological structure and reactions occurring in living systems. The Third Edition continues this tradition, and additionally incorporates coverage of recent research and an expanded focus on preparing and supporting students throughout the course. With the addition of new conceptual assessment content to WileyPLUS (access to WileyPLUS not included), students have the opportunity to assess their conceptual understanding of key introductory biochemistry concepts and retrain themselves on their misconceptions.

Fundamentals of Biochemistry: Life at the Molecular Level Review

I received my textbook on time and in excellent (new) condition. Although it says "international" copy, the pages are exactly the same as the US version...except for the titles of some or all of the chapters and sections. The only thing I didn't know is that, although it was a "new" copy, it did not come with a WileyPlus registration code which I needed for my class. The seller is great!! I contacted them and they were very helpful and understanding and gave me no trouble. I would use them again and I would definitely recommend them!!!

Human Anatomy & Physiology, 8th Edition Review

It does what I thought it was going to do. I am currently taking A&P I and so far so good. I decided to purchase this new version since I also need it for A&P II but I could of saved a lot of money if I had just purchased the old version. They are exactly the same and my teacher allows it. Bummer....

But the product is great. It is understandable and to the point. The CD roms and the atlas that come with it are ok, but not neccessary, I guess if you need more practice. Just wish it wasnt so expensive!

My Stroke of Insight: A Brain Scientist's Personal Journey

by Jill Bolte Taylor

My Stroke of Insight: A Brain Scientist's Personal Journey

My Stroke of Insight: A Brain Scientist's Personal Journey Overview

In 1996, 37-year-old neuroanatomist Taylor experienced a massive stroke that erased her abilities to walk, talk, do mathematics, read, or remember details. Her remarkable story details her slow recovery of those abilities (and the cultivation of new ones) and recounts exactly what happened with her brain. Read proficiently by the author, this is a fascinating memoir of the brain's remarkable resiliency and of one woman's determination to regain her faculties and recount her experience for the benefit of others. Taylor repeatedly describes her "stroke of insight"-a tremendous gratitude for, and connection with, the cells of her body and of every living thing-and says that although she is fully recovered, she is not the same driven, type-A scientist that she was before the stroke. Her holistic approach to healing will be valuable to stroke survivors and their caregivers, who can pick up suggestions from Taylor's moving accounts of how her mother faithfully loved her back to life. A Viking hardcover.

My Stroke of Insight: A Brain Scientist's Personal Journey Review

If you are caring for a person who had a stroke, whether it is your own friend or family member or you are caring for stroke patients in some sort of nursing capacity--you MAY be able to make a world of difference in their life by reading this book. If you do nothing else, at least look at the list that this fully recovered stroke victim AND brain scientist added to the back of the book. It could greatly enhance your ability to help them recover more fully.

In fact, I have a feeling that you will hope (as I did) that IF you ever become the patient, that whoever ends up caring for you will also have read it!!! Very, important and helpful insights.

The book itself is great. I've always found the brain to be a fascinating thing--what we perceive as reality, what makes us different from each other and what makes us human. On that level, it was also extremely interesting. In fact (and this sounds a little strange), it made me less afraid of dying someday. It is actually a hopeful book that makes you realize that our brain is so busy making sense of everything and taking care of "ourself" that we are actually missing a great deal of what is really going on around us. This book brings home the reality that we are actually part of "everything" and always will be.

Excellent book. One that everyone really should read. Skip over the few boring parts--just keep reading and it may give you a new way of seeing things.

The Brain That Changes Itself: Stories of Personal Triumph from the Frontiers of Brain Science (James H. Silberman Books)

by Norman Doidge

The Brain That Changes Itself: Stories of Personal Triumph from the Frontiers of Brain Science

The Brain That Changes Itself: Stories of Personal Triumph from the Frontiers of Brain Science Overview

For years the doctrine of neuroscientists has been that the brain is a machine: break a part and you lose that function permanently. But more and more evidence is turning up to show that the brain can rewire itself, even in the face of catastrophic trauma: essentially, the functions of the brain can be strengthened just like a weak muscle. Scientists have taught a woman with damaged inner ears, who for five years had had "a sense of perpetual falling," to regain her sense of balance with a sensor on her tongue, and a stroke victim to recover the ability to walk although 97% of the nerves from the cerebral cortex to the spine were destroyed. With detailed case studies reminiscent of Oliver Sachs, combined with extensive interviews with lead researchers, Doidge, a research psychiatrist and psychoanalyst at Columbia and the University of Toronto, slowly turns everything we thought we knew about the brain upside down. He is, perhaps, overenthusiastic about the possibilities, believing that this new science can fix every neurological problem, from learning disabilities to blindness. But Doidge writes interestingly and engagingly about some of the least understood marvels of the brain. (Mar. 19)

The Brain That Changes Itself: Stories of Personal Triumph from the Frontiers of Brain Science Review

This is a very good book, though perhaps not written as a page turner.
This information is very valuable for two reasons.

First, it could potentially change the way we look at diseases of the mind, and what are the options for treating them. Like so many other good works of medicine, this book clearly shows that not all treatments need to be drugs and surgery. The brain has a built-in flexibility never before imagined. But up to now we have not guessed this, and have not known what kind of stimulus is required to activate the brain's own inherent abilities to change and heal itself. He points towards what some of the new therapies might be.

Second, one can ponder, how and why the brain has the kind of flexibility it does. In one example, people blind from birth learn to see through their tongues. A video camera is strapped to the subject's head. The camera image is converted into electrical signals, those signals sent to a small disc, and the disc placed on the subject's tongue. In a matter of days the blind person's visual cortex is interpreting the signals from the tongue, and the people can "see". This all touches on a much larger topic, that our brains have far more complexity and ability than is necessary for our survival in the life we lead. If our brains only evolved to give us better abilities to find mates and increase territory, then why would we have staggeringly complex neural abilities that do not relate to finding mates and increasing territory?

Essentials of The Living World

Essentials of The Living World

Essentials of The Living World Overview

A student favorite, this engaging text, now presented with a new single column format, is rich with student-oriented applications and illustrations that drive the learning. Written from scratch to be an appealing and accessible learning tool with an emphasis on "how things work and why things happen the way they do", this Essentials text features a straightforward, clear writing style with ample use of analogies to help students relate new material to familiar things. NEW digital assets for the 3rd edition include high interest video clips and animations of key biological concepts.

Essentials of The Living World Review

I am not a science major, by any means. Hey, I just need the class to become an interior designer. The book is definately not high school material. It is written on college level and meant for higher intellect. Considering my background, this means I must read and re-read this book to understand it. However, once I got going, I have to admit, it is quite interesting. I think I may learn something from it, after all! Well, gotta go. I have to read chapter 7!

Prescott's Microbiology Overview

The author team of Prescott’s Microbiology continues the tradition of past editions by providing a balanced, comprehensive introduction to all major areas of microbiology. Because of this balance, Microbiology is appropriate for microbiology majors and mixed majors courses. The new authors have focused on readability, artwork, and the integration of several key themes (including evolution, ecology and diversity) throughout the text, making an already superior text even better.

The Wild Life of Our Bodies: Predators, Parasites, and Partners That Shape Who We Are Today

by Rob Dunn

The Wild Life of Our Bodies: Predators, Parasites, and Partners That Shape Who We Are Today

The Wild Life of Our Bodies: Predators, Parasites, and Partners That Shape Who We Are Today Overview

A biologist shows the influence of wild species on our well-being and the world and how nature still clings to us—and always will.

We evolved in a wilderness of parasites, mutualists, and pathogens, but we no longer see ourselves as being part of nature and the broader community of life. In the name of progress and clean living, we scrub much of nature off our bodies and try to remove whole kinds of life—parasites, bacteria, mutualists, and predators—to allow ourselves to live free of wild danger. Nature, in this new world, is the landscape outside, a kind of living painting that is pleasant to contemplate but nice to have escaped.

The truth, though, according to biologist Rob Dunn, is that while "clean living" has benefited us in some ways, it has also made us sicker in others. We are trapped in bodies that evolved to deal with the dependable presence of hundreds of other species. As Dunn reveals, our modern disconnect from the web of life has resulted in unprecedented effects that immunologists, evolutionary biologists, psychologists, and other scientists are only beginning to understand. Diabetes, autism, allergies, many anxiety disorders, autoimmune diseases, and even tooth, jaw, and vision problems are increasingly plaguing bodies that have been removed from the ecological context in which they existed for millennia.

In this eye-opening, thoroughly researched, and well-reasoned book, Dunn considers the crossroads at which we find ourselves. Through the stories of visionaries, Dunn argues that we can create a richer nature, one in which we choose to surround ourselves with species that benefit us, not just those that, despite us, survive.

The Wild Life of Our Bodies: Predators, Parasites, and Partners That Shape Who We Are Today Review

Robert Dunn is a poet in this book, which examines how our bodies have evolved under the influence of other organisms. These include the parasites within us; the predators that chased us; and the creatures dwelling on the surfaces of our bodies. Some of them -- -- consider the bedbug, you New Yorkers -- are with us still. Other, such as those pesky predators, like the lion, tiger, and bear -- are mostly gone, but nevertheless have left their mark on how we think and how our bodies work. Dunn surprises us page by page: find out, for example, how keeping too clean has likely been the cause of our modern ailments. Reading, however, is good for you: try this book!

Absolute Ultimate Guide for Lehninger Principles of Biochemistry (Study Guide & Solutions Manual) Review

I am so relieved that I spent the extra money to purchase this solutions manual. First of all, it has all the answers to the HW problems, which is obviously quite useful (and do a good job of explaining them it does). But even more than that, many of the questions in the actual study guide portion of the manual ask you conceptual questions that I would never have thought of asking myself. When you are trying to create a solid foundation in the understanding of a subject, it is the things like this that really help you solidify your knowledge.

The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that, not very often, it skimps in the explanation of one of the answers. I'm a very thorough study-er and like to know that I understand the subtle nuances of an concept, so this frustrates me.

Human Molecular Genetics, Fourth Edition

by Tom Strachan, Andrew Read

Human Molecular Genetics, Fourth Edition

Human Molecular Genetics, Fourth Edition Overview

Human Molecular Genetics is an established and class-proven textbook for upper-level undergraduates and graduate students which provides an authoritative and integrated approach to the molecular aspects of human genetics. While maintaining the hallmark features of previous editions, the Fourth Edition has been completely updated. It includes new Key Concepts at the beginning of each chapter and annotated further reading at the conclusion of each chapter, to help readers navigate the wealth of information in this subject.
The text has been restructured so genomic technologies are integrated throughout, and next generation sequencing is included. Genetic testing, screening, approaches to therapy, personalized medicine, and disease models have been brought together in one section. Coverage of cell biology including stem cells and cell therapy, studying gene function and structure, comparative genomics, model organisms, noncoding RNAs and their functions, and epigenetics have all been expanded.

Human Molecular Genetics, Fourth Edition Review

I already knew this book since my human genetics exam at the University. I used to study on the 2nd edition. I did not like it very much because it was a bit confusing with a lot of info spread in the various chapters of the book. You could not study on it without an help of the teacher..
This edition is much better!! Clearer and better organized !!!
I am studying now on it and I found it really pleasant..

Really a good deal and worth it for the price.

Intermolecular and Surface Forces, Third Edition: Revised Third Edition

by Jacob N. Israelachvili

Intermolecular and Surface Forces, Third Edition

Intermolecular and Surface Forces, Third Edition Overview

This reference describes the role of various intermolecular and interparticle forces in determining the properties of simple systems such as gases, liquids and solids, with a special focus on more complex colloidal, polymeric and biological systems. The book provides a thorough foundation in theories and concepts of intermolecular forces, allowing researchers and students to recognize which forces are important in any particular system, as well as how to control these forces. This third edition is expanded into three sections and contains five new chapters over the previous edition.

· starts from the basics and builds up to more complex systems
· covers all aspects of intermolecular and interparticle forces both at the fundamental and applied levels
· multidisciplinary approach: bringing together and unifying phenomena from different fields
· This new edition has an expanded Part III and new chapters on non-equilibrium (dynamic) interactions, and tribology (friction forces)

Intermolecular and Surface Forces, Third Edition Review

The improvements to the third edition, over the second, are well worth the more than a decade of waiting. Nothing in the content is worse, and some additions are great.
However, the product itself--the physical book--is disappointing. Apparently concerned that an e-book savvy public will no longer pay the price required to publish a decent book, the publishers have opted to cut corners in all of the worst ways. To bring the price down into whatever the range is that was indicated by the exhaustive research of their marketing department (which seems to have consisted of a bunch of junior-year unpaid interns sitting around trying to figure out how much THEY might spring for a textbook) the modest geniuses at academic press have opted to print on uncoated (although recycled) stock. This has the twin disadvantages of poor archival quality, and poor printing quality. To compensate for the latter, the text must be printed in larger font, since teeny-weeny letters will smear together on the uncoated stock. The result is a book that is much to large for its content. It is unwieldy, unattractive, and the pages feel both rough to the touch, and soft enough to tear easily. An added disadvantage is that more pages means the places you want to turn to in the book are farther apart, meaning that you have to handle the unattractive and flimsy pages more than you want to. I would not be surprised if there is a surreptitious effort to promote this kind of bad-feeling book to herd the general public toward the Kindle(R).

Cell and Molecular Biology: Concepts and Experiments

by Gerald Karp

Cell and Molecular Biology: Concepts and Experiments

Cell and Molecular Biology: Concepts and Experiments Overview

Karp continues to help biologists make important connections between key concepts and experimentation. The sixth edition explores core concepts in considerable depth and presents experimental detail when it helps to explain and reinforce the concepts. The majority of discussions have been modified to reflect the latest changes in the field. The book also builds on its strong illustration program by opening each chapter with “VIP” art that serves as a visual summary for the chapter. Over 60 new micrographs and computer-derived images have been added to enhance the material. Biologists benefit from these changes as they build their skills in making the connection.

Molecular and Cell Biology For Dummies Review

I'm taking a graduate level environmental biology class this summer even though I knew I was a bit short on the prerequisites. I didn't try to convince anyone that the prerequisites were unnecessary, just that I was willing to do whatever was necessary to fill in the gaps. Still, it's been 20 years since I was last a student, and 30 since I'd taken a biology class, so I definitely needed help. I bought a copy of Molecular Cell Biology (Lodish, Molecular Cell Biology) to fill in the molecular biology gaps and then I bought this so I could understand Lodish.
So far the combination works quite well. I find that if read this great little book by Dr. Kratz first, I can master a chapter of Lodish in a couple of hours. Without it...well, I'd figure it out but it would take much longer.
Dr. Kratz nicely explains the basic functions of cells and their structures, then devotes a chapter to the chemistry that is especially relevant to cell biology, covalent and ionic bonding, redox reactions, pH and polymers. Subsequent chapters cover carbohydrate, protein, DNA and RNA, and lipid synthesis. Cellular communication, metabolism, respiration, and photosynthesis are nicely briefed. I have not read the remaining chapters yet, but they appear to be equally well prepared.
It certainly will not replace your molecular biology textbook, but if you are feeling a bit behind on the background knowledge you need to be successful, I think this will fill the bill. Altogether, a nicely done book.

A Biologist's Guide to Mathematical Modeling in Ecology and Evolution

by Sarah P. Otto, Troy Day

A Biologist's Guide to Mathematical Modeling in Ecology and Evolution

A Biologist's Guide to Mathematical Modeling in Ecology and Evolution Overview

Thirty years ago, biologists could get by with a rudimentary grasp of mathematics and modeling. Not so today. In seeking to answer fundamental questions about how biological systems function and change over time, the modern biologist is as likely to rely on sophisticated mathematical and computer-based models as traditional fieldwork. In this book, Sarah Otto and Troy Day provide biology students with the tools necessary to both interpret models and to build their own.
The book starts at an elementary level of mathematical modeling, assuming that the reader has had high school mathematics and first-year calculus. Otto and Day then gradually build in depth and complexity, from classic models in ecology and evolution to more intricate class-structured and probabilistic models. The authors provide primers with instructive exercises to introduce readers to the more advanced subjects of linear algebra and probability theory. Through examples, they describe how models have been used to understand such topics as the spread of HIV, chaos, the age structure of a country, speciation, and extinction.
Ecologists and evolutionary biologists today need enough mathematical training to be able to assess the power and limits of biological models and to develop theories and models themselves. This innovative book will be an indispensable guide to the world of mathematical models for the next generation of biologists.

A Biologist's Guide to Mathematical Modeling in Ecology and Evolution Review

This book introduces the mathematical models in use in various branches of biology and related fields. It is extremely well written and easy to follow. If you wish to own one book on this subject then this should be high on your list for consideration.

The Logic of Chance: The Nature and Origin of Biological Evolution (FT Press Science)

by Eugene V. Koonin

The Logic of Chance: The Nature and Origin of Biological Evolution

The Logic of Chance: The Nature and Origin of Biological Evolution Overview

The Logic of Chance offers a reappraisal and a new synthesis of theories, concepts, and hypotheses on the key aspects of the evolution of life on earth in light of comparative genomics and systems biology. The author presents many specific examples from systems and comparative genomic analysis to begin to build a new, much more detailed, complex, and realistic picture of evolution. The book examines a broad range of topics in evolutionary biology including  the inadequacy of natural selection and adaptation as the only or even the main mode of evolution; the key role of horizontal gene transfer in evolution and the consequent overhaul of the Tree of Life concept;  the central, underappreciated evolutionary importance of viruses; the origin of eukaryotes as a result of endosymbiosis; the concomitant origin of cells and viruses on the primordial earth; universal dependences between genomic and molecular-phenomic variables; and the evolving landscape of constraints that shape the evolution of genomes and molecular phenomes.

The Logic of Chance: The Nature and Origin of Biological Evolution Review

I'm not qualified to judge whether there are technical errors, so I will assume that a person who has hundreds of peer-reviewed publications will not have made many mistakes.
I can, however, judge the beauty of the writing and compare it to other classics, such as The Selfish Gene and A Brief History of Time. It compares well, even though it contains numerous diagrams and formulas. It's a bit more technical than those works, but only where it needs to be in order to make its points.
But it will be a classic because it deals handily with nearly every contested area of evolution, neatly demolishing every criticism leveled by creationists. It does this by making positive statements about what is known rather than by arguing against creationism. This is a refreshing change from most books written for a wide audience.
Perhaps its boldest claim is that there has been more progress made in the last ten years than in the previous 150 years.
I suspect it will be criticized for concluding that the origin of life might have been a one in a zillion long shot, and invoking multiple universes to beat the odds. This is presented as speculation, not fact, but it will be quote-mined by ID advocates. Correction, it already has been.

The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution [Bargain Price] [Hardcover]

by Richard Dawkins

The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution Overview

The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution is a 2009 book by British biologist Richard Dawkins, which was released on 3 September 2009 in the UK and on 22 September 2009 in the U.S. It sets out the evidence for biological evolution, and is Dawkins' 10th book, following his bestselling critique of religion The God Delusion (2006) and The Ancestor's Tale (2004), which traced human ancestry back to the dawn of life. The book is published in the United Kingdom and Commonwealth nations by Transworld, and in the United States by Free Press. In its first week of release, it topped The Sunday Times' Bestseller list, with more than twice the sales of its nearest competitor. An audiobook version has also been released, read by Dawkins and his wife Lalla Ward.

The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution Review

Essential reading for anyone who has ever asked the question "From where did I come?"
I would like to see Mr. Dawkins esq. develop a series of child guides that could be comprehended by all post-embryonic children through to the level of maturity at which they could fully grasp the information he so eloquently imparts.
I am neither a blinkered 'Creationist' nor 'Evolutionist'.
I believe in 'Creation' of the Universe. I do not believe it was always there. I believe it emerged as a result of an evolutionary process of extra-universal forces that are currently beyond our comprehension.I generally support the Big Bang theory although I am more inclined to believe it was a process similar to crystallisation, occasioned by energy slowing down to < the speed of light, rather than an explosion as the term 'Big Bang' implies.
If I were God with omnipotent power I would find it extremely boring to wave a magic wand six times in order to create my Universe in a week. It would be much more fun to throw the Creation dice and then sit back in an easy chair for 18 billion years or so and watch the fun that evolution brings to the party.
It is only humankind that has contrived to sit on opposite sides of the house (as it does about virtually everything) over the Creation/Evolution topic. The rest of nature seems to be able to get on with 'being' in a far less confrontational way.
P.S. Not only did Sherlock Holmes not utter the words "Elementary, my dear Watson" but there is also no evidence that he wore a deer-stalker hat or smoked a curly pipe.

BiologMicrobiology: A Human Perspective Overview

Appropriate for the non-major/allied health student, this authoritative text carefully explains the fundamentals of microbiology, providing a general overview of the principles followed by more detailed explanations. With its clear and concise writing style, Microbiology: A Human Perspective offers modern coverage on such topics as genomics, biofilms, and quorum sensing. A body systems approach is used in the coverage of diseases.

Microbiology: A Human Perspective Review

I bought this version to save a little money. Its so surprising how much they charge for the regular hardback edition. I found that the only difference is the cover. Great Value. This book was easy to understand and I scored a 3.8 in my microbiology class! :)

Human Biology [Paperback]

by Sylvia Mader

Human Biology Overview

Dr. Sylvia Mader's succinct, precise writing style. Sylvia's writing is what has earned her a reputation as one of the most successful introductory biology textbook authors ever, and it is the most compelling feature of this text.
Updated Boxed Readings Throughout --Human Biology features three different types of boxed readings. Theses readings have been thoroughly updated by Dr. Mader, as well as experts in the field, throughout the book to remain current.
A complete set of chapter learning aids includes a listing of chapter concepts, brief concept summaries within the chapter, boldface key terms, summary, and objective questions. Students value tools within the text that help them grasp the concepts.
Customize this book through Primis Online! This title is tentatively planned to be part of the Primis Online Database: www.mhhe.com/primis/online Benefit : Professors can customize this book to meet their exact needs and mix and match with other items on Primis Online--allowing them maximum choice and flexibility. Instructors can choose between two delivery formats: custom printed books (in black and white) or custom eBooks (in color).
Emphasis on Homeostasis -- Homeostasis is emphasized throughout the text. The homeostasis sections at the end of specific chapters and the accompanying homeostasis illustrations, have been revised for greater clarity and explain in depth how the body systems work together to maintain homeostasis.

Human Biology Review

This book is full of great illustrations and pictures to assist with the learning process. However, at some points it seems like they just stop teaching. There are places where they have gone into lengthy explanations about certain key aspects of a subject, but then quickly breeze over other key aspects of the same subject. This was especially frustrating when the instructor was teaching right out of the teacher's manual and there was an in depth question about something the book explained once in one sentence. Overall, this is a decent book. The index and glossary are very helpful for looking up terms when studying. Also, the student website is very helpful and has a lot of additional information and study aides.
My biggest gripe is the price of the book. At over $100 this is really no bargain. However, if you want to pass your Bio class, chances are, you need the book.

- Cheers!
