The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution Overview
The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution is a 2009 book by British biologist Richard Dawkins, which was released on 3 September 2009 in the UK and on 22 September 2009 in the U.S. It sets out the evidence for biological evolution, and is Dawkins' 10th book, following his bestselling critique of religion The God Delusion (2006) and The Ancestor's Tale (2004), which traced human ancestry back to the dawn of life. The book is published in the United Kingdom and Commonwealth nations by Transworld, and in the United States by Free Press. In its first week of release, it topped The Sunday Times' Bestseller list, with more than twice the sales of its nearest competitor. An audiobook version has also been released, read by Dawkins and his wife Lalla Ward.
The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution Review
Essential reading for anyone who has ever asked the question "From where did I come?"
I would like to see Mr. Dawkins esq. develop a series of child guides that could be comprehended by all post-embryonic children through to the level of maturity at which they could fully grasp the information he so eloquently imparts.
I am neither a blinkered 'Creationist' nor 'Evolutionist'.
I believe in 'Creation' of the Universe. I do not believe it was always there. I believe it emerged as a result of an evolutionary process of extra-universal forces that are currently beyond our comprehension.I generally support the Big Bang theory although I am more inclined to believe it was a process similar to crystallisation, occasioned by energy slowing down to < the speed of light, rather than an explosion as the term 'Big Bang' implies.
If I were God with omnipotent power I would find it extremely boring to wave a magic wand six times in order to create my Universe in a week. It would be much more fun to throw the Creation dice and then sit back in an easy chair for 18 billion years or so and watch the fun that evolution brings to the party.
It is only humankind that has contrived to sit on opposite sides of the house (as it does about virtually everything) over the Creation/Evolution topic. The rest of nature seems to be able to get on with 'being' in a far less confrontational way.
P.S. Not only did Sherlock Holmes not utter the words "Elementary, my dear Watson" but there is also no evidence that he wore a deer-stalker hat or smoked a curly pipe.
